HELLENIC RESCUE TEAM

HELLENIC RESCUE TEAM (HRT) is a Non-Governmental Search and Rescue Organization, whose members have been participated voluntarily in operations since 1978 and has been functioning as an association since 1994. HRT’s headquarters is located in Thessaloniki, but the organization’s network consists of another 32 branches and readiness bases all over Greece. The Hellenic Rescue Team has performed its rescue work at sea with honor during the 2015 refugees crisis in Lesvos, Samos, Kos and Chios with a fleet of 18 lifeboats. In 2016, the international maritime organization IMRF has actively coordinated its European members for the promotion of the ‘Aegean Project’ at the request of the Greek Coast Guard: HRT has supported German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (DGzRS) with operative crew on board the Minden ship, and Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) on board the lifeboats Victoria Class.
