HUMANITARIAN PILOTS INITIATIVE

HUMANITARIAN PILOTS INITIATIVE (HPI) is a Swiss initiative of committed pilots and supporters who use their abilities for humanitarian purposes – regardless of politics, religion, ethnicity or nationality. HPI sees itself as an organization that plans operations in humanitarian, social and ecological areas and carries out with its own aircraft. In 2015 HPI has been in close contact with Sea Watch NGO with a project for aerial marine sar monitoring. HPI organized by Malta search flights off the Libyan Mediterranean coast to sift guessed refugee boats in distress: the position and the condition of the boats are reported to the MRQ Rome National Maritime Emergency Bureau, which initiates further measures to rescue the refugees.

Operating sar area: Central Mediterranean Sea
