PROACTIVA OPEN ARMS

PROACTIVA OPEN ARMS (POA) is a non-governmental organization from Badalona (Barcelona, Spain) whose main mission is to rescue refugees from the sea that arrive in Europe fleeing wars, persecution or poverty. POA is specialized in rescue missions of boats carrying people who need help in the Aegean and Central Mediterranean sea, as well as raising awareness of all the injustices that are happening which have been untold. In early September 2015 Proactiva Open Arms decided to move to the island of Lesbos to help the refugees, who arrived at the Greek coast. After the deal between the European Union and Turkey, the project has been extended in Central Mediterranean sea with medicalized rescue and surveillance ships operating in international waters.
